Carolyn is a recent winner of two prestigious awards for her book Opening the Gates of the Heart: A Journey of Healing, which is a tribute to the resiliency and beauty of the human spirit. She was awarded a Silver Medal in the Gift/Specialty category from the Nautilus Book Awards. She also received the coveted DiVinci Eye Award for best book cover art, from the Eric Hoffer Book Awards.
In her current role as a speaker, Carolyn inspires countless people to make peace with their life. Using her book as a guide, she shows it is possible to heal from old wounds, to offer forgiveness, and to live in joy and peace. An expert in forgiveness, Carolyn seeks to enhance others lives by opening their eyes to the damaging effects of harboring grudges and resentments. Carolyn is living proof that it is possible to move past a life of drinking over grudges and regrets to live a life that is serene.
In order to help others work past their own issues of guilt and bitterness, Carolyn has developed three tips for opening the gates of the heart to peace and joy.
· Humbly look at yourself and your actions to determine if you contributed negatively to a situation that has resulted in a state of un-forgiveness. If you did, own your behavior; drop the grudge or regret. Apologize as indicated.
· If you behaved positively or neutrally and can still say you were wronged, feel compassion for yourself for being a wounded person. Before going on to the next step, allow yourself to feel compassion for as long as you need. I advise caution not to cross the line from compassion to self-pity. Compassion is expansive while self-pity is closed.
· Finally, consider that the other person was/is, in fact, wounded themselves and offer them compassion for their pain, as well. Keep repeating this process of looking at this person with new eyes until the grudge and/or regret begins to melt away. Notice when you reach forgiveness.
In her spare time, Carolyn likes to rebuild things like kitchens, baths, cars, boats and houses. She enjoys decorating her home, as well as designing and building storage spaces.
