
Timonium, MD - Ilona Kaufert Klasons is being recognized by
Continental Who’s Who as a Lifetime
Achiever for her distinguished career in the Regulatory field.
Ilona Kaufert Klasons is a retired professional who
dedicated nearly three decades to Regulatory work. She was born in Latvia and
relocated to Canada in 1951, then later immigrated to the United States in
1960. Ms. Klasons moved to Boston, MA, and married her late husband, Visvaldis
Klasons, in 1960, and then had her son Eric in 1963. After several years, Ms.
Klasons decided to join the workforce again and took night courses at a local
community college to further her education.
She originally planned to study nursing, but Ms. Klasons
loved numbers and decided to pursue a more fitting path toward a finance and
regulatory business career. She began her college education with a Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration in 1974 from Townson University (formerly
known as Towson State College). After graduating, she worked at the Maryland
Insurance Administration, where she remained from 1975 to 1992. During her time
at the Maryland Insurance Administration, she became a Certified Insurance
Examiner through the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society in 1980.
From 1992 to 1993, Ms. Klasons worked as a Manager at KPMG
in Dallas, TX. However, the Maryland Insurance Administration requested her
return to her former position in 1993. Ms. Klasons agreed and was then promoted
to an Associate Commissioner role. She helped the department become accredited,
which she is very proud of and considers a highlight of her career. Ms. Klasons
worked for the Maryland Insurance Administration until her retirement in 2000.
With a demonstrated passion for the Regulatory field, Ms.
Klasons was the Vice President of the Society of Financial Examiners from 1991
to 1992 and President of the National Association of Managed Care Regulatory
from 1992 to 1994. Even after retirement, Ms. Klasons continued her career as a
Regulatory Consultant. From 2000 to 2014, she consulted with business
professionals using her strong background in the field.
Ms. Klasons was awarded the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime
Achievement Award in 2018. She was featured in the 57th and 58th editions of
Who’s Who in America, and the 22nd and 23rd editions of Who’s Who American
Professional Women.
Today, Ms. Klasons is enjoying her retirement in Timonium,
MD. She enjoys reading, traveling, sewing, and volunteering for local
organizations.
