Palm Springs, CA- Irene May-Ling Hutchins, MD, is
being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in
the field of Medicine as a Hematologist/Oncologist at Desert Regional Medical
Center.

E218, Desert Regional Medical Center renders premier hematology and oncology
services to southern California residents. Their satellite center,
Comprehensive Cancer Center, is in La Quinta, at 47647 Caleo Bay, Suite 260.
Dr. Hutchins treats patients at both locations, specializing in benign and
malignant hematology, chiefly leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma,
myeloproliferative neoplasms, and related conditions. She joined the center in
2018.
Providing extremely compassionate, expert oncology care, Dr. Hutchins is one of
the top hematologists/oncologists in Riverside County. She maintains
affiliations with the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, as well as
the cancer centers. Her career has been very successful because she has
conducted all the necessary conversations with her patients and their families,
never focusing solely on medication. She treats the whole patient, ensuring she
has pursued all appropriate actions. When asked what advice she has for new
doctors and hematologists/oncologists, she states, “The field has increased
based on new research and technological advances, requiring a higher level of
knowledge and expertise.”
In preparation for her career, Dr. Hutchins earned an undergraduate degree in
psychology from Stanford University, transitioning to the University of
California (UC) Davis School of Medicine for a medical degree. She trained as a
resident in internal medicine at UC Davis from 2012 to 2015, gravitating
towards hematology-oncology because she could focus on the entire family and
build a unique bond with the patient and the family. She then completed a
fellowship in hematology and oncology from July 2015 to 2018. Board certified
in internal medicine, she earned a physician and surgeon license from the
Medical Board of California.
A frontrunner in her field, Dr. Hutchins remains aware of the latest
developments in her field by maintaining memberships with the American Society
of Hematology (ASH), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society (LLS).
In appreciation of Dr. Hutchins’ philanthropic work for blood cancer research,
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society honored her as the Woman of the Year in 2018.
On top of this accomplishment, she has numerous publications including
“Communicating Prognostic Information in Oncology” and “Immunotherapy in
Multiple Myeloma”.
Dr. Hutchins dedicates this recognition in loving memory of her patient Frances
Sorem.
