Leading an impressive career for nearly five decades, Dr.
Snyder has garnered an excellent reputation for his passion to explore. As the
President & Founder at Strategic Studies Inc., he is devoted to delivering
exceptional results on matters of sustainable tourism by utilizing a vast
repertoire of skills and expertise he has developed from his real-life
experiences. Dr. Snyder prides his work on making impactful strides in the
world of tourism and the environmental field.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Snyder proudly served his
country as a first lieutenant of military intelligence for the U.S. Army from
1968 to 1972. Meanwhile, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Franklin
& Marshall College in 1968 and a Master of Science from Colorado State
University in 1974. Committed to his continued education and professional
development, he returned to Colorado State University and received a Ph.D. in
1982. He also completed a postdoctoral program in planning and design at
Harvard University. In recognition of his excellence, Dr. Snyder was honored by
Phi Kappa Phi Scholastic Honor Society, Xi Sigma Pi Forest Resources Honor
Society, and the Critical Issues Honors Program at Yale University.
Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Snyder has held various roles in his field
including economic research associate for the U.S Forest Service, senior
resource analyst for ABT Associates, senior economic analyst for the City of
Kansas City, MO, vice president Oblinger Smith Corp. Dr. Snyder founded Strategic Studies, Inc. in
1982. He was also an advisor for the
National Geographic Society, for polar shipping expertise for the US Navy and
other Arctic navies, a senior advisor for the leisure and hospitality industry
for the Leeds Business College, University of Colorado, president of Glacier
Bay Outfitters, senior advisor for special family recreation, Denver, and
economic advisor to the Treasurer and Governor of Colorado.
Dr. Snyder has shared his environmental and economic expertise as an educator serving on the Faculty of Regis University and as the Executive Director of the Environmental Policy and Management Graduate Program at the University of Denver.
As a respected voice in his field, Dr. Snyder is the author or co-author of several books including “Prospects for Polar Tourism”; “Polar Tourism: The Sustainability Challenge; “Arctic Marine Shipping Assessment”; and “Arctic Sea Ice Thickness, Past, Present, and Future”.
