LAURENCE H. LATTMAN - PROFESSOR EMERITUS

Albuquerque, NM ‒ Laurence H. Lattman is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Professor for his excellent work in the Geology field and as Professor Emeritus at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

For more than four decades, he has been studying geology and educating the next generation of Geologists.

He began in 1948, graduating from City College of New York with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He then enrolled at the University of Cincinnati, graduating with a master of Science degree in Geology in 1951, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1953.

After working as an instructor at the University of Michigan, Dr. Lattman worked for the Gulf Oil Corp. in Pittsburgh, PA as the Assistant Head of the Photogeology section. In 1957, he joined the Pennsylvania State University as an Assistant Professor, and later became a Professor of Geomorphology. He also taught for five years at the University of Cincinnati from 1970-1975, working as both a Professor and Department Chairman. Dr. Lattman took on the position of Head Dean of the College of Mines at the University of Utah. He went on to be the Dean of the College of Engineering, where he thrived in the role until 1983. He next served as the President of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, serving until his retirement in 1993.

Dr. Lattman served on the Board of Directors of the Public Service Company of New Mexico, and was a consultant for the US Army Corps of Engineers and several major oil corporations. From 1995-2002, he was a member of the New Mexico Environmental Improvement Board.

He is the author of Aerial Photographs in Field Geology, published in 1967, and Energy Law. He has written extensively for over 45 professional journals in his field.

Dr. Lattman and his wife Hanna have recently established an endowed fund for the Geology Department of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, to provide funding for the geology faculty and their research endeavors.
