
Fredericksburg, VA – Maritza Romero-Gutierrez, MD, FCAP, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Pathologist for her years of excellent work serving her community at Virginia Pathology and Autopsy Services.
As an experienced Pathologist and Owner of Virginia Pathology and Autopsy Services, Dr Romero-Gutierrez works to answer questions about death in a sensitive and timely manner. At her practice, she guides families through difficult questions regarding how a person died. When it comes to unexpected deaths or deaths under mysterious circumstances, Dr. Romero-Gutierrez is passionate about finding the answers. Her work can help families find closure and can be used in criminal cases if a crime was committed.
As a highly-trained Pathologist, she works with a team of highly skilled professionals, including board-certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologists. She and her colleagues have decades of experience in general surgical pathology, oncologic pathology, and autopsy pathology. They are driven by and committed to finding the causes of death, and trying to provide answers to any questions that exist regarding the person’s cause of death. It is essential for Dr. Romero-Gutierrez and her staff members to always be clear and compassionate in their communications, which can provide comfort to the family or survivors.
As a Pathologist, Dr. Romero-Gutierrez studies diseases through the examination of surgically removed organs, tissue, bodily fluids, and in some cases, studies the entire body. She specializes in the diagnosis and management of diseases by laboratory methods. She is also the owner of the practice, and manages her team, assists family members and survivors, and manages the day-to-day business needs of the company.
In 1988, Dr. Romero-Gutierrez graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Costa Rica with her Medical degree. She then attended SUNY Upstate Medical University in 1996, completing a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She then pursued a Fellowship in Oncologic Pathology at Roswell Park Center Cancer Institute in 1998.
She is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists (FACP), and is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The mission of the ABPath is to promote public health and advance the practice and science of pathology. They establish voluntary certification standards, and assess the qualifications of those who have studied in the pathology field. Dr. Romero-Gutierrez is also the laboratory Medical Director at Novant Health UVA Culpeper Medical Center.
