
Destin, FL - Mark Dekutoski is being recognized by
Continental Who’s Who as a Distinguished Doctor for his extensive work in the
field of Orthopedic Surgery over three decades.
Dr Dekutoski began his college education at Albion College
in 1978, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982. He then
attended Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1982, where he graduated
with his Medical degree in 1986 and then completed his Residency in Orthopedic
Surgery in 1991. Following residency, Dr. Dekutoski completed a highly
selective Two Year NIH Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Spine Research and Clinical
Fellowship in Spine Surgery and Deformity at the Twin Cities Scoliosis Spine
Center at the University of Minnesota as a John H. Moe Clinical Spine Fellow.
Dr. Dekutoski conducted high-level
clinical specialty practice at the Mayo Clinic from 1993 until 2013 where he
was a Consultant, Faculty and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. He trained Neurosurgical Residents and
Orthopedic Residents, and Fellows in complex Spine Surgery. He has become a recognized International
Leader in Interdisciplinary Spine Education and has had substantial impact in
the evidence-based literature supporting advances in care for Deformity
Surgery, Spinal Tumor Surgery, Cervical Myelopathy, Spine Fractures and Less
Invasive Spine Surgery Techniques. He has led clinical practice and change for
enhanced outcomes through, National/International/Local education and improved
patient-specific outcomes for rare, complex, and more common conditions
disabling surgical conditions such as herniated thoracic discs, lumbar discs,
lumbar fusions, and more.
Dr. Dekutoski led the Spine Team at The
CORE Institute in a co-management effort with the Deer Valley and Banner
Medical Centers for five years. He is currently treating patients in Northwest
Florida, where he has been since 2020.
He meets with each patient for
individualized assessment and education.
During these evaluations, patients may be recommend for x-rays, MRIs,
diagnostic studies or other imaging to further evaluate their condition. Dr.
Dekutoski’s conduct is an individualized, patient-centered, evidence-based
approach to informed patient choice and informed decisions regarding the
patients' specific conditions and outcome expectations for therapies. Non-operative therapies and management is a
common chosen pathway. Should surgical options be indicated and chosen, they are
conducted by the Provider at local Surgical Centers or Full Service Hospitals.
Dr. Dekutoski is a national leader in Less Invasive Spine Surgery Techniques.
He developed implants marketed internationally by Major spine Implant Vendors.
He performs the full breadth of Spinal Surgeries. These include Less Invasive spinal fusions,
Deformity Correction, Disc Arthroplasties Cervical, Disc Arthroplasty Lumbar,
Cervical laminectomy, thoracic laminectomy, lumbar laminectomy, thoracic
fusions, lumbar fusions, cervical fusions, and decompressive surgeries.
In addition to his clinical role, Dr.
Dekutoski is an International/National and Local educator. He was an Associate
Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, 1993 to 2013. He has written and contributed to over ONE
HUNDRED Peer-Reviewed Publications. His EBM evidence-based contributions to the
spinal field in Minimally Invasive Techniques for Tumor, Deformity, Infection,
Trauma and Degenerative Conditions have significantly enhanced care and
outcomes for patients worldwide.
Specifically impactful have been Dr. Dekutoski’s contributions to Cervical
Myelopathy, Spinal Deformity, Metastatic Tumor, Spinal Fractures, and
Osteoporosis Conditions. Google Scholar citations have been annually greater
than 15000 times.
Dr. Dekutoski has been a leader and
remains on top of developments in the field.
Dr. Dekutoski is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons (AAOS), the AO Spine Society (AOS), the Society for Minimally Invasive
Spine Surgery (SMISS), the North American Spine Society (NASS), and the
American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS).
