
Huntington, WV — Mary “Mitzi” Payne, MD, FAAN, is being
recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Trusted
Physician in the Medical field and in acknowledgment of her work as a
Pediatric Neurologist with Marshall Health.
With 20 years of experience in practicing medicine, Mary
“Mitzi” Payne, MD, FAAN, specializes in pediatric neurology consultations and
epilepsy. She is a pediatric neurologist with a focus on diagnosing and
treating seizure disorders, muscular dystrophy, and cerebral palsy. She is also
a professor of pediatric neurology, teaching medical students (including
pediatric residents and fellows) about pediatric neurology.
The doctor’s goal is early intervention to safeguard
children’s brain development and learning capabilities. She strives to help
children in their educational, social and emotional development despite
neurological disorders.
Dr. Payne is an attending physician at Cabell Huntington
Hospital; leads the Pediatric Concussion Clinic at Marshall Health; and is an
Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Joan C. Edwards School
of Medicine – Marshall University.
Dr. Payne and pediatrician Norman Cottrill, MD, lead
programs at The Pediatric Concussion Clinic at Marshall Health, which provides
comprehensive concussion treatments, computerized testing, and tracks progress.
She also works at KIDS Clinic – Huntington Marshall Neuroscience (Marshall
University Medical Center) Marshall Neuroscience – Teays Valley and Marshall
Sports Medicine Institute.
To prepare for her professional journey, Dr. Payne graduated
from the Emory University School of Medicine. She earned a BS in bioengineering
from the University of Illinois; an MD from Louisiana State University, School
of Medicine; pediatric residency completed at Tulane University; pediatric
neurology fellowship completed at Louisiana State University affiliated
hospitals.
The doctor is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology;
President of the West Virginia Neurological Society; member of the West
Virginia Governor's Early Childhood Advisory Committee. She is board certified
in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology, and epilepsy.
Outside work, Dr. Payne volunteers for Lilly’s Place, a
neonatal addiction program and facility.
She also volunteers with the CDC in the US Virgin Islands for Zika virus
treatment and follow-ups on child care.
