MATTHEW THOMAS DAVIES, MD - NEUROSURGEON
Duluth, MN - Matthew Thomas Davies, MD, is being recognized
by Continental Who's Who as a Distinguished
Healthcare Professional in the Medical field for his outstanding work at
Orthopedic Associates of Duluth.
A board-eligible neurosurgeon, Dr Davies has
been practicing with Orthopedic Associates of Duluth for the past two years as
a partner in the practice. He sees patients at the offices in Duluth and
Hibbing Clinic and Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids. Bringing
his expertise to the Northland, his specialties include general neurosurgery,
spine surgery, spinal deformity, spinal oncology, pain management, minimally
invasive SI-joint fusion, cervical disc replacement, and lumbar disc
replacement.
Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis,
surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders that affect any portion of
the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and
extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose
and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the
brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, certain types of birth defects,
infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.
Dr. Davies was drawn to the medical field while growing up because his good
friend's father passed away from cancer, so he wanted to go into the medical
field to help people suffering from illness. He is very excited to practice in
his hometown, where he grew up. The doctor hopes to work with the University of
Duluth Medical School to mentor aspiring medical professionals. He enjoys
working with medical companies to find innovative and new treatments in spine
surgery.
"I get to see my patients in their most humbling of circumstances and come
up with a solution for them to help fix their pain," Dr. Davies states.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Davies received his Medical
Degree (MD) from the University of Vermont College of Medicine while earning
Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honors. He then completed his residency within the
Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern
Medical Center in Dallas and trained at Parkland Hospital, UTSW, the North
Texas VA Hospital, and Children's Medical Center in Dallas. After that, Dr.
Davies served as a neurological surgery CAST Spine Fellow in spinal deformity
and spinal oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He
received additional training and certification in SI joint fusion through
SI-Fuse/SI-Bone, cervical disc replacement through Mobi-C, and lumbar disc
replacement through Activ-L.
In association with various professional affiliations, Dr. Davies is a member
of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the College of
Neurological Surgeons, the Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons, the
American Medical Association, the Christian Medical, and Dental Associations,
the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and the International Society for
the Advancement of Spine Surgery. The doctor's hospital affiliations include
Lakewalk Surgery Center and St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Grand Itasca Clinic
and Hospital in Grand Rapids, and Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing.
On a personal note, the doctor enjoys spending time with his wife and two young
children, his daughter is four and a half, and his son is three years old.
