Board-certified in anesthesiology, Dr. Nebojsa Nick Knezevic is a well-respected and highly trained pain management specialist with 23 years of professional excellence in the medical field. He has devoted the past 11 years as the Vice Chairman for Research and Education at the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. As a pain management specialist, Dr. Knezevic specializes in chronic non-cancer back pain and commits to providing the highest standard of quality healthcare.
To prepare for his distinguished medical career, Dr. Knezevic received his Medical Degree from the University of Belgrade in Serbia in 1997, followed by his Ph.D. in pharmacology at the University of Illinois in 2007. Meanwhile, he completed a residency in anesthesiology and pain management at the University of Illinois.
An active member of academia, Dr. Knezevic is a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery at the College of Medicine, University of Illinois Chicago. He teaches residents and pain management fellows and oversees the clinical research department performing clinical trials and investigations on new pain medicines. Additionally, he manages the multiple US and global clinical trials (phases I-IV) to test different pain medications and innovative medical devices for acute and chronic pain.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, Dr. Knezevic remains abreast of his field's latest advancements. He maintains active memberships with several professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, International Anesthesia Research Society, Association of University Anesthesiologists, North American Neuromodulation Society, and the American Society for Pain and Neuroscience. Dr. Knezevic is a designated member of the Advocate Healthcare IRB and serves as a Vice-Chair of the ASA Abstract Review Subcommittee on Chronic and Cancer Pain.
Prof. Dr. Knezevic has published more than 130 per-review manuscripts in prestigious medical journals that were cited almost 3000 times. He had more than 300 presentations at national and international meetings and was invited to give about 100 lectures at different prestigious conferences worldwide. As a testament to his professional excellence, Dr. Knezevic was presented with the Academic Achievement Award by the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians Awards Committee for his dedication to interventional pain management through teaching mentoring and research twice in 2016 and 2019.
In his spare time, Dr. Knezevic volunteers for various events with the Serbian Orthodox Church and travels with his wife Ivana, daughter Emilija and son Sava.
