
Bronx, NY — Purificacion
Cristobal, DNP, is being recognized by Continental Who's Who as an Exceptional
Woman in Healthcare in the Medical field, acknowledging her
outstanding work as an Addiction Psychiatrist at Kamehameha Health and Wellness
Nonprofit Corporation.
Dr. Cristobal is a
psychiatrist who specializes in treating substance use disorder, major
depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), bipolar
disorder, and attention deficit disorder (ADHD). She worked in her solo
practice in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 2014 to 2018. At Kamehameha Health and
Wellness in the Bronx, NY, Dr. Cristobal has served as an addiction
psychiatrist since 2019. Her philosophy is to empower every patient through
actively listening and being generous with her time for each patient she
encounters.
Kamehameha Health and
Wellness serves clients and patients in Hawaii and New York. They are prepared
to meet individual physiological, psychological, and social life challenges
through psychotropic medication management combined with psychotherapy in a
therapeutic milieu. Through community education, innovation, and evidence-based
practice rendition, the providers continuously build relationships with their
communities by engaging in open communication and collaboration with the
individuals and families they serve.
In pursuit of higher
education, Dr. Cristobal received her Bachelor of Science degree and two Master
of Science degrees: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) and Family Nurse
Practitioner (FNP), both from Lehman College of the
City University of New York (CUNY), graduating Cum Laude in 1997. She earned a
Medical Degree from the Universidad México Americana del Norte (UMAN),
graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2002. She then earned her post-graduate degree from
Binghamton University of the State University of New York (SUNY) to become a Psychiatric
Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). In
addition, she holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Brandman-Chapman
University (now part of the University of Massachusetts). Dr. Cristobal
completed her training with numerous medical and nursing certifications. She is
a SAMHSA Drug Addiction certified practitioner and a federally authorized
provider of Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT).
Widely respected in her field,
Dr. Cristobal has published papers and has been the recipient of many awards,
including Top Doctor, Worldwide Leader (2017), Presidential Who's Who
(2009-2020), and Outstanding Woman of the Year in Mexico (2000). Looking to the
future, Dr. Cristobal wishes to research epigenetics related to mental illness
and continue helping and treating marginalized populations with mental illness
and drug addiction.
Among her professional
memberships and affiliations, Dr. Cristobal is a member of the American Association
of Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Association, Sigma Theta
Tau International Honor Society, Golden Key National Honor Society, American
Psych Nurses (APNA), National Association of Pediatric (NAPNAP), and Hawaii
Medical Service Association (HMSA).
On a personal note, the
doctor enjoys reading, doing research, walking, sightseeing, and watching
sports on TV during her free time. Dr. Cristobal dedicates this recognition to
the loving memory of her husband, John Lisa, who was a veteran. They were
married for 41 years. She hopes to spend more quality time with her siblings
and rekindle lost times. She would also like to acknowledge her mentors, Dr.
Helen Lerner and Dr. Alicia Georges.
