PURIFICACION CRISTOBAL, PHD, DNP - ADDICTION PSYCHIATRIST

Bronx, NY — Purificacion Cristobal, DNP, is being recognized by Continental Who's Who as an Exceptional Woman in Healthcare in the Medical field, acknowledging her outstanding work as an Addiction Psychiatrist at Kamehameha Health and Wellness Nonprofit Corporation.

Dr. Cristobal is a psychiatrist who specializes in treating substance use disorder, major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), bipolar disorder, and attention deficit disorder (ADHD). She worked in her solo practice in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 2014 to 2018. At Kamehameha Health and Wellness in the Bronx, NY, Dr. Cristobal has served as an addiction psychiatrist since 2019. Her philosophy is to empower every patient through actively listening and being generous with her time for each patient she encounters.

Kamehameha Health and Wellness serves clients and patients in Hawaii and New York. They are prepared to meet individual physiological, psychological, and social life challenges through psychotropic medication management combined with psychotherapy in a therapeutic milieu. Through community education, innovation, and evidence-based practice rendition, the providers continuously build relationships with their communities by engaging in open communication and collaboration with the individuals and families they serve.

In pursuit of higher education, Dr. Cristobal received her Bachelor of Science degree and two Master of Science degrees: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), both from Lehman College of the City University of New York (CUNY), graduating Cum Laude in 1997. She earned a Medical Degree from the Universidad México Americana del Norte (UMAN), graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2002. She then earned her post-graduate degree from Binghamton University of the State University of New York (SUNY) to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). In addition, she holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Brandman-Chapman University (now part of the University of Massachusetts). Dr. Cristobal completed her training with numerous medical and nursing certifications. She is a SAMHSA Drug Addiction certified practitioner and a federally authorized provider of Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT).

Widely respected in her field, Dr. Cristobal has published papers and has been the recipient of many awards, including Top Doctor, Worldwide Leader (2017), Presidential Who's Who (2009-2020), and Outstanding Woman of the Year in Mexico (2000). Looking to the future, Dr. Cristobal wishes to research epigenetics related to mental illness and continue helping and treating marginalized populations with mental illness and drug addiction.

Among her professional memberships and affiliations, Dr. Cristobal is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Association, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Golden Key National Honor Society, American Psych Nurses (APNA), National Association of Pediatric (NAPNAP), and Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA).

On a personal note, the doctor enjoys reading, doing research, walking, sightseeing, and watching sports on TV during her free time. Dr. Cristobal dedicates this recognition to the loving memory of her husband, John Lisa, who was a veteran. They were married for 41 years. She hopes to spend more quality time with her siblings and rekindle lost times. She would also like to acknowledge her mentors, Dr. Helen Lerner and Dr. Alicia Georges.
